The Astir Beach Tradition

In 1959 a sandy beach with crystal clear waters, resting on a 300 meter coast surrounded by pine trees in the vicinity of Vouliagmeni just 25 km from Athens, becomes the «Astir beach». And so the story begins…

Astir beach forms the extension of the Astir Palace hotel complex and it quickly becomes the favorite meeting point of the hotel’s VIP guests.

Convenience stores and boutiques, beach bar, restaurant, dressing rooms, lockers and wardrobe, water sports, beach volley, children’s playground, as well as facilities for people with a disability, life guard and doctor on call, are just a few of the beach’s innovative services at the time.

In 1966 with the opening of the ski school, Astir beach makes celebrity history as it is often visited by Christina Onassis, Joan Collins, Brigitte Bardot and other famous personalities. Ship owners, businessmen, rock singers, actors and politicians make it one of their favorite destinations. Astir beach has established itself as the meeting point of the Greek and international elite.

From the terrace of the restaurant, later called ‘Artemis’, hotel guests and VIP’s, Athenians and tourists enjoy the endless blue sea. Fresh fish, champagne and cigars are among the preferences of the guests who call to reserve the sea side tables in order to enjoy the fabulous sea view and the infinite blue of the sky.
